We recently reported that most small and mid-size businesses that made IT a priority reported revenue gains in 2009. It seems many business leaders already figured that out. A new survey from Gartner, Inc., discovered that 62% of CEOs recognize that IT-enabled changes will be a key element in their post-recession strategy. Only 13% disagree. Most importantly, the Gartner survey found CEOs are no longer looking to contain the damage of the global recession. They’ve got their eyes on boosting profits once again.
It’s an interesting question. As small businesses, we will need to make sense of “cloud computing” and to try to determine what sort of impact, if any, this new concept will have on our business. Eric Knorr’s take on the difference between cloud computing and hosting is interesting. I think it does a fair job of trying to distinguish between the two concepts, but as with most articles I read, this is geared more towards the enterprise IT department.

Businesses on the East Coast got a taste of what a small natural disaster can do to productivity and communication when back-to-back blizzards struck. The heroes of the week — besides road crews and power company employees? Companies with telecommuting programs. Even federal agencies with these arrangements were bragging last week about their uninterrupted service and workflow.
